Study of the Effects of Temperature-Dependent Electric Power Transmission Line Models on Estimation of Transfer Capabilities

چکیده
This paper discusses a study of the impacts of ambient temperature gradients along electric power transmission lines on power transfer capability limits. This investigation is performed through the use of novel multi-segment, non-uniform, temperature-dependent line models, which are used to capture the non-uniformity of line parameters caused by ambient temperature variations. For demonstration purposes, a 9-bus, 3-generator, power system subject to various ambient temperature scenarios has been used. Results of the investigation underline the sensitivity of lines’ power handling capabilities on temperature gradients along them and support the use of temperature dependent line models especially under severe weather conditions. Key-Words: Distributed parameter circuits, Ladder circuits, Power lines, Power transmission lines, Power transmission meteorological factors, Temperature, Transmission line modeling.

To reduce the damages of aeolian vibration of conductors to the power transmission networks, the most common method is installation of Stock-bridge dampers. Estimation of the damper’s dissipated energy is an important factor in determining the number and location of installation of these types of vibration absorbers. This estimation is strongly dependent upon the assumed mode shape of the condu...
